I learned a lot about art in the every day while staying with a lovely Brazilian family outside of Belo Horizonte. One form of art that applies to nearly everyone is the family portrait. Here is a collection of family portraits taken during the two weeks of my stay. There is a mix of extended family from the countryside, capoeira, hometowns, and of course a lot of joy and love. I will forever be grateful to the Hosana family for teaching me so much about how to move through the world in a loving and gracious way.

“Through photographs, each family constructs a portrait-chronicle of itself—a portable kit of images that bears witness to its connectedness. It hardly matters what activities are photographed so long as photographs get taken and are cherished” - Susan Sontag, In Plato’s Cave
